There is something about this time of year that seems to bring everyone back to the table.
Maybe it is the cooler evenings, the familiar recipes we haven't made in a while, or simply knowing that the holidays and the people we love aren't very far away.
It is the season when the table starts to feel like more than a place to eat.
It becomes the place where everyone ends up.
Where one person is still in the kitchen, someone else is sneaking a taste before dinner, conversations overlap, stories we've all heard before somehow get told again, and nobody is in much of a hurry to leave.
The table doesn't have to be perfect. The meal doesn't have to be elaborate. And everyone doesn't even have to agree.
They just have to be there.
Because years from now, it probably won't be what we served that we remember most. It will be who was sitting around the table with us.
