There is something about a sunflower that always feels hopeful.
It turns toward the light, opens itself completely and somehow manages to make even an ordinary day feel a little brighter.
And then there is the bee busy making its way from flower to flower, doing something incredibly important without ever seeming to know just how important it is.
I think that is what I love about the two of them together.
They remind me that so much of life is made up of small things. Showing up. Doing the work. Finding the light. Creating something beautiful along the way.
This piece also came home from the kiln with a little part of someone else's story.
During firing, a few drops of blue glaze from another piece found their way onto one corner. It certainly wasn't part of my original plan, but pottery has a way of reminding you that once the kiln closes, you are no longer completely in charge.
I could look at those little blue spots as imperfections.
Instead, I think I will let them be part of this piece's story.
Because handmade things aren't supposed to look as though they came from a factory. Sometimes the kiln leaves its own mark and this time, it left just a tiny bit of blue behind.
